About the event

Join us for a Racial Justice Summit:Boystown & Beyond.

We will address the pervasiveness of racism within the LGBT community and form a locally-based coalition to tackle the issue. Clergy of LGBT-welcoming churches and their parishioners are strongly encouraged to attend. While this event is non-sectarian, Lighthouse recognizes the importance of white churches being challenged to address injustice perpetrated by white people. Attendees will get an opportunity to hear from various voices within the African American LGBTQ+ community from youth and transfolk to cis lesbians, elders, and business owners. Together they will describe the ways in which institutionalized racism limits the possibilities and hopes of African American LGBTQ+ people in Boystown and beyond. A plan will be presented to begin the movement to address racism in Boystown and beyond. Come learn, join, and lift up your voice!

Lighthouse UCC is a predominately African-American LGBT-inclusive church that welcomes all people. We are a nested within St. Paul UCC, Lincoln Park.

This event is convened by Lighthouse Church and co-sponsored by Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches and the Chicago Metropolitan Association of the UCC. Other co-sponsors are forthcoming.
